All classes on Saturday, January 21st are canceled due to the snow storm.  These classes will be made up at the end of the session.  Please check your email and reply that you have received the cancelation notice so we will know you don't need a phone call.  Thanks!  There will be no classes in Milton, Norton or West Bridgewater on Saturday, January 21st.

Registration for our 10 week winter session beginning the week of January 7th is open.  Check our classes page for the schedule.  Our 10 week winter session will feature the Bells Collection including favorites Me, You, We, Trot, Old Joe and Mr. Rabbit.  Most of our fall session classes were filled to capacity, so don't forget to register early!

Many people are surprised when they go to register for a Music Together class and find that the age range for most of the classes is from birth through five years old. There are many reasons why Music Together classes are mixed age. One being that a child's age does not necessarily correlate with their musical development and another being that the main interactions are between the parent and child. Additionally, younger children benefit from observing the older children and older children are given many opportunities to lead and see how far they've come. Please read Why Mixed Ages?, an interview done with parents at a center in New York City getting parents thoughts about the mixed age setting. Come try a class and see for yourself!

Big Kids Family Music classes for children ages 5 through 7 help to bridge the gap between the playful environment of Music Together classes and formal music instruction. Once a child can sing in tune and keep a beat, they are ready to start verbal association, so we begin to introduce tonal and rhythm sol feg. Children are given many improvisational opportunities. We use the songbook more and children help to dramatize the songs. More complex games are introduced which are engaging and individualized. During these games children are unwittingly singing 'solos' with confidence. There is plenty of opportunity for instrument play from drumming to playing pitched bells to developmentally appropriate piano keyboard activities.

Old Colony Music Together is very happy to be offering a new class in Boston at the Susan Bailis Assisted Living Center located at 352 Massachusetts Ave. in Boston, diagonally across from Symphony Hall.
